The easiest way to understand raw vs roasted chocolate is to compare it to raw vs roasted nuts.  Raw, also known as unroasted, chocolate is made from cacao beans that are dried in the sun instead of getting roasted in a machine.

Raw, or unroasted, chocolate treats are minimally processed and the recipes are kept at low temperatures during all phases of processing.  This ensures that you receive the maximum nutritional value, such as antioxidants, and the maximum energetic benefits, such as the bliss chemicals that cacao releases in your brain.  It does have a different flavor profile than roasted chocolate, and please know that all raw chocolates are not created equal.

We take great pride in our brand and have been told countless times that it is the best on the market.  We agree.  We also believe you will feel much more uplifted and energized by consuming raw chocolate than roasted chocolate.

Coconut palm sugar has a glycemic index of 35, making it suitable for many diabetics and folks with sugar sensitivities.  Parents love for their kids becuase it does not cause a sugar crash.

It is made from tapping the sap of coconut trees and is high in nutrients, minerals, and has an almost neutral pH.  We love it’s delicious taste and how it harmonizes so perfectly with cacao!

That’s me!  I am founder, chocolatier and CEO of lulu’s chocolate.  Pretty sweet job!  I love sharing my story and tell the entire saga in great detail over several blog posts.  It all started with my falling madly in love with a cacao tree on my 28th birthday. So I’ve long been a chocoholic, foodie & a health nut!  After discovering my sensitivity to refined sugar, my question became, what to do about my love of chocolate?  This led me on quite the quest…many adventures & misadventures later, I’m proud to say that I’ve created my dream come true. I get to eat gourmet chocolate for breakfast (and all day) every single day and I feel better than ever. It all began with one cacao tree that forever changed my life.

Our bar pouches are biodegradable and printed with water based ink.  Our stickers are 100% compostable sugarcane, made by Pure Labels.  Our golden wrappers are 100% compostable NatureFlex, made from wood pulp.  They make great kindling for your fire!  Our truffle boxes are 100% recycled / FSC paper printed with veggie inks.   Beyond packaging, we practice sustainability in sourcing & manufacturing.  Our product is HowGood Certified, meaning it meets very strict sustainability standards.  We love our planet and know that each choice we make matters!

We do process tree nuts but never process dairy, soy or gluten.

Not with our brand.  Unfortunately, some major chocolate companies have been found to employ child labor in west Africa to create their product.  This saddens us to no end.  As consumers, we vote with our dollars and we should be cautious of cheap chocolate and informed on what brands we support.  Lulu’s brand is beyond fair trade and the farmers in Ecuador who hand harvest our wild cacao pods are paid a living wage and treated with love and respect.

Not with our brand. It is true that some brands have been found to contain a higher than normal amount of heavy metals in their chocolate. Our cacao is tested for purity at its source and we’ve also lab tested the finished product.

Our chocolate contains zero parts per million for lead and the cadmium levels are very much under the safe limits listed in Prop 65. The higher the cacao content, the more possibility for heavy metals.

We are proud to say that even our darkest chocolate passes well under the Safe Harbor / Prop 64 limits. Please see our testing here.

We accept all major credit cards but do not accept PayPal at this time.  Payments are securely processed via our merchant gateway, Stripe.

No.  Sorry.  We tried but customs can be complicated.

Hemp CBD is growing in popularity as an alternative remedy for a wide range of needs.

Three decades ago scientists identified and mapped two groups of molecules, known as receptors, in the CNS (central nervous system) and in the immune system that help cannabinoids bind to cells. They found that the brain already contains small amounts of its own naturally occurring cannabinoids that also bind to these same receptors (CB1 and CB2). CBD is one of the cannabinoids that assists in essentially unlocking the incredible healing power of these receptors in the endocannabinoid system.

There is a ton of buzz about CBD these days and it can be so confusing.  I’ll try to keep it as simple as possible here.  CBD products that are sold outside of dispensaries are made with CBD sourced from “Agricultural Hemp.”  This plant is still a cannabis plant, but is defined as having .3% THC or less by dry weight.  By the time the plant is processed and put into a finished product, THC amounts vary or are removed by a lab.

Full Spectrum CBD products will contain some THC.  If you are sensitive, it is very important to know exactly how much.  For instance, on our shop you’ll find our Full Spectrum CBD Chocolate.  Each square contains 20mg CBD and .75mg THC.  To some, .75mg THC will not be noticed at all, while others will feel it.  I suggest starting slow and building to find your perfect Full Spectrum dosage.  Keep in mind that edibles (including tinctures and pills) can take up to two hours to show their full effect.  Know your dose.

THC Free CBD products have had the THC removed by a lab.  Some people simply do not want any THC at all, but desire the benefits of CBD.  One can intake an infinite amount of CBD without any psychoactive effects.  Therefore, if you desire very high doses of CBD while keeping your head totally clear, this is a good way to go.  My favorite method is to take a small amount of full spectrum along with a large amount of THC free CBD.  I can’t get enough of the 2Rise Naturals THC free tincture.  It tastes like vanilla cake and I put it in coffee when I drink it for a very alert and energized, yet non-edgy state of being.  I’m super sensitive to caffeine and this is actually the only way I get to enjoy it.

Do click on our lab reports.  They are there for your support and education.  I’m proud to say that ours is the first CBD site I’ve come across that has labs for each product available for customers at the click of a button.  Knowledge is power.

While we would LOVE nothing more than to saturate our pages touting the amazingness of CBD, it is not in our best interest to do so at this time. The world of legalized hemp CBD is fairly new and yet to be regulated by the FDA. As a result, in accordance with US regulations we cannot make health claims regarding CBD products. We highly encourage you to conduct your own research as there are endless resources available online and elsewhere. Thank you for understanding.

Currently, there are no known cases of overdosing CBD.  Hemp CBD has been found to be safe at any level and there are no known side effects.  If you are taking other medication or are pregnant or breast feeding, please consult with your health care provider prior to introducing CBD into your diet.

Dosage entirely depends upon what you are taking CBD for. A good place to start is 1-2 servings per day. It is recommended to increase or decrease slowly until optimal effects are reached.  What seems to be effective may vary greatly depending on the individual.

Your body will build up a storage of CBD. Unlike alcohol, which is usually absent from the bloodstream and body within 24-48 hours after ingestion, CBD is fat soluble and may stay bound to the cells of the body for weeks. This is important to know because after a few weeks of using full-spectrum hemp extract a lesser amount may be just as effective as the original serving amount.

If you have to take routine drug tests, we suggest sticking to our THC-Free CBD products as Full Spectrum CBD products do contain slight amounts of THC.  Better safe than sorry!
